'Colbert Report' vet named executive producer
NEW YORK -- Tom Purcell has been promoted to executive producer of Comedy Central hit show "The Colbert Report." He previously served as co-executive producer.

Stephen Colbert, executive producer, writer and host of the program, made the announcement Monday.
"Tom Purcell is a boundless source of energy, intellect and comedy," said Colbert. "I look forward to many years of draining his vitality."
Purcell has been with "The Colbert Report" since its launch in October 2005. He received a Writer's Guild Award in 2008 and won the show's first primetime Emmy with his writing team that same year.

Jon Stewart, Colbert and Purcell now serve as exec producers of the show. Meredith Bennett and Richard Dahm are co-executive producers.
