Tone Loc Collapses Onstage in Atlanta
Rapper Tone Loc collapsed onstage at an Atlanta concert on Saturday. According to reports, the 45-year-old MC, best known for megahits “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina,” has a history of seizures. In 2009, he had a similar incident at an outdoor performance in Pensacola Beach, Fla. The cause was said to be overheating.
According to TMZ, Loc (real name: Anthony Terrell Smith), was transported to a nearby hospital and released. Following reports of a seizure, his manager told the website Loc was doing fine and was suffering from exhaustion.
On Oct. 14, rapper Rick Ross had a seizure while on a flight bound for Memphis, Tenn., where he was due to perform on Friday night, forcing an emergency landing. Late last year, Tone Loc was pulled over in L.A. on suspicion of DUI, which police later concluded was a seizure behind the wheel.
The latest collapse comes 11 days after Loc pleaded no contest to weapons and domestic violence charges, stemming from an arrest in Los Angeles on June 18 following an alleged physical altercation with the mother of one of his children. Loc was found in possession of an unregistered assault weapon (a Colt AR-15 Sporter), although a release from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office specified that it was not used in the assault. He was sentenced to one day in county jail, three years of formal probation, 30 days of community service and 52 weeks of anger-management counseling by Burbank Superior Court Judge Patrick Hegarty.
