Tony Awards: 2014 Honorees Announced (Exclusive)
The three honorees will be feted at a cocktail reception on June 2 at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe.
The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced this year’s honorees, recognizing individuals, institutions and organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theater outside of the established Tony Award categories.
The three honorees will be toasted at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party on June 2 at the Paramount Hotel’s Diamond Horseshoe. The 2014 Tony Honors will be presented to Joe Benincasa, Joan Marcus and Charlotte Wilcox.
"This year’s honorees personify the heartbeat of the Broadway community," said Heather Hitchens, executive director of the American Theatre Wing, and Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, in a statement. "Their passion, commitment and tireless dedication to the theatre shines through in their work."
Benincasa is president and CEO of The Actors Fund, the national performing arts human services organization, and oversees its programs including comprehensive social and health care services, employment and training, and housing. He is also president of the Actors Fund Housing Development Corporation, which builds affordable, supportive and senior care residences for artists in major urban centers.
Marcus has photographed almost 300 Broadway shows and hundreds of productions off-Broadway at regional theaters and on national tours over the past 25 years. Previously the house photographer for the Kennedy Center, her work has captured the energy of musicals and plays and appeared all over the city and country.
Wilcox is a seasoned general manager and founder of The Charlotte Wilcox Company. She has given her guidance and leadership to over 100 shows. As an industry leader for over 40 years, her countless credits include this season's Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, as well as Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, all three Broadway productions of Grease, West Side Story, The Drowsy Chaperone and more. She was also a founding member of the Labor Committee for The Broadway League.
Tony nominations in the competitive categories will be announced April 29 by Lucy Liu and Jonathan Groff. The awards ceremony, hosted by Hugh Jackman, will be broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall on June 8. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
