Abramorama to Release Tony Bennett Documentary This Fall
"The Zen of Bennett" will begin a platform rollout in New York in October and become available for streaming through Netflix in November.
Abramorama has struck a deal with Benedetto Films to handle the theatrical release of The Zen of Bennett, a documentary about singer Tony Bennett. The film, which bowed at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, will open in New York on Oct. 24.
On Nov. 2, it will add theaters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Barbara and Palm Springs and is expected to continue to expand to select cities nationwide throughout November and December.
Under a separate deal with Benedetto, Netflix will begin offering the film exclusively for streaming Nov. 12 in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Latin America.
Zen was directed by Unjoo Moon and created and produced by Danny Bennett along with producer Jennifer Lebeau.
In the film, Bennett, on the eve of his 85th birthday, looks back over his 60-year career, discussing his philosophy of life, the lessons he has learned and his passion for art and music.
“The Zen of Bennett is a profound, cinematic look at one of the truly great artists of the last 60 years,” Abramorama’s Richard Abramowitz said.
Added Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, “The movie is a real treat, capturing one of the greatest artists of our time in a deeply personal and affecting way.”
