The worlds of Hollywood and high fashion grow more entwined each year, and never is their symbiotic relationship on more display than during awards season, when the stakes are stratospherically high. Consider the recent $12.7 billion and $12.4 billion valuations of Michael Kors and Gucci, respectively. That's big business, and the creators who drive those two brands, celebrated on THR's second annual Top 25 Red Carpet Designers list, take it very seriously. As Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld has said, "This job is for warriors. This is not for romantic softies."

Still, that doesn't mean these warriors don't bring fun and flair to the battlefield, as evidenced by the quartet of diverse and playful covers of this issue. Zac Posen and his muse (and friend of 15 years) Katie Holmes "couldn't stop dancing" at their shoot, says THR senior style writer Merle Ginsberg. Alexander Wang's miniature pinscher Uni kept everyone smiling as the Balenciaga designer dressed Nicole Kidman in a long-sleeve gown built for her and flown in from Paris the morning of her L.A. shoot. Gwyneth Paltrow's cover with Valentino's Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli was shot during a party for the house's first Rome couture show. And Blake Lively and Michael Kors didn't let a little rain dampen their spirits. "How did we meet?" Lively asked Kors during their Manhattan rooftop shoot. "Wasn't it eHarmony?"

THR recently had its own red-carpet moment as Ginsberg, style editor Carol McColgin and I received a Fashion Media Award from The Daily Front Row (presented by a man of great style himself, Wiz Khalifa) in New York during Fashion Week for this issue last year (it had Giorgio Armani and Kate Hudson on the cover) and our 25 Most Powerful Stylists list featuring Lady Gaga and her stylist Brandon Maxwell (photographed by Lagerfeld). Now, as THR's fashion and film teams suit up for the next big battle — the Oscar race onslaught — I'm sure many in town can relate to Miuccia Prada's quote from this issue: "I can't pretend I don't care about competition."
