'Up' tops nominations for Key Art Awards

Film earns 19 mentions for THR's annual marketing honors


 
Disney/PIxar's "Up" has earned 19 nominations, the most of any film, for The Hollywood Reporter's 39th annual Key Art Awards. Winners will be announced during an awards show set for June 11 at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles.

Sony's "District 9" was next with 14 noms, followed by Warner Bros.' "The Hangover" with 12.

Ignition leads all agencies with 59 nominations, and Lionsgate collected the most studio noms, followed closely by Paramount and Warners.

Sylvester Stallone will receive the Visionary Award. An actor, writer and director, Stallone has branded his movies with vitality and a belief that a man can succeed against all odds. Former Visionary Award recipients include Sam Raimi and Judd Apatow.

THR received a record number of submissions for this year's awards, which will be given out in 74 categories; for the first time, nods will be handed out for 3D and best integrated marketing campaign. Thirteen Best in Show awards will be presented during the event by top studio marketing executives.

The Key Art Awards honor outstanding creative contributions to the marketing of theatrical motion pictures and DVD releases. For a second consecutive year, THR is employing an efficient and environmentally friendly online process for submissions, and judging in all categories -- except 3D or interactive entries -- will be evaluated in person.

The Key Art judges consist of marketing executives, creative directors, art directors, designers, writers, producers, editors and account execs representing the best of the creative community.

New venue Vibiana is suited to hosting the awards, as the baroque architecture of the former archdiocese cathedral will provide the backdrop for the nominated artwork and for guests to mingle with some of the most creative minds in the motion picture marketing community. A streamlined live awards presentation will take place on the main altar at Vibiana and will be projected via a live feed to guests in the outside garden.
