The Toronto Film Festival is dedicating Sept. 5 to the 'Ghostbusters' and 'Groundhog Day' star

Bill Murray will take part in the festivities surrounding “Bill Murray Day,” the Toronto Film Festival's commemorative tribute to the legendary actor and comedian.

Among the many events planned to celebrate Murray on Friday are screenings at Toronto's TIFF Bell Lightbox of his classic comedies Stripes, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters, as well as the world premiere of his latest film, St. Vincent, and, in the evening, a Bill Murray costume contest.

The Weinstein Co. has confirmed that Murray, who rarely gives interviews, will take part in Q&A sessions following the screenings of Ghostbusters and St. Vincent.

“Bill Murray has undeniably earned his status as an acting and comedic icon,” said TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. “He’s a true one-of-a-kind. Toronto’s celebration dedicated to the man is well-deserved, and we are immensely excited that he’ll be there in the flesh to celebrate with us and his huge legion of fans.”

Also set to appear are directors Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters) and Mitch Glazer (Scrooged), with other friends and collaborators expected.

"It's going to be fun," Reitman told The Hollywood Reporter, noting how rare an opportunity it will be to interact with Murray, who doesn't have an agent, manager or publicist and still utilizes a mythical 800-number for voicemail. “He decided to lead this very independent, eclectic, remarkable existence. He deserves to do whatever he wants.”

TWC plans to release Ted Melfi's St. Vincent on Oct. 24. The film co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O’Dowd, Terrence Howard and Jaeden Lieberher.
