Toronto Bolsters Programming Team
Toronto hires Rasha Salti to program MIddle Eastern and African films.
OTTAWA – As Arab world tensions grow, the Toronto International Film Festival has named indie curator Rasha Salti to program Middle Eastern and African films.
New York-based Salti brings experience as a programmer for the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and the CinemaEast Film Festival, as well as staging retrospectives on Arab and Syrian Cinema. “Fluent in Arabic, French and English, her understanding of both the aesthetic ambitions and social realities of filmmakers in the Middle East and Africa made her our ideal candidate,” TIFF co-director Cameron Bailey said Thursday on news of the appointment.
The 36th Toronto International Film Festival will run from September 8 to 18, 2011.
