Toronto: D Films Snags Canadian Rights to Kristen Wiig's 'Welcome to Me'
TORONTO – Canadian indie D Films has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to Shira Piven's dramatic comedy Welcome to Me, which stars Kristen Wiig.
The movie, from Gary Sanchez Productions and Bron Studios, recently completed production in California.
The Welcome to Me cast includes Linda Cardellini, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Jason Leigh and James Marsden.
The dramedy examines society's obsession with fame by portraying a woman (Wiig) suffering from dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery only to spend the money on a cable access talk show about herself.
Piven directed the pic from a screenplay by Eliot Laurence.
Aaron L. Gilbert and Marina Grasic produced Welcome to Me, with Margot Hand as co-producer.
For Gary Sanchez Productions, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum are producers, with Robyn Wholey as executive producer.
Wiig is a producer as well.
D Films also has on its upcoming release slate Richard Ayoade's The Double and Paul Haggis' Third Person, which had its world premiere in Toronto.
