Toronto: Drea de Matteo to Join Cast of Drama 'Dark Places'
TORONTO – Drea de Matteo has signed on to join the cast of the drama Dark Places.
The film, which stars Charlize Theron, is being co-financed and co-produced by Exclusive Media.
Currently shooting in Shreveport, La., Dark Places is based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel and also stars Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Corey Stoll and Tye Sheridan.
Written and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, the film is co-financed by Cuatro Plus Films.
The story centers on Libby Day (Theron), a woman who, at the age of 7, survives the massacre of her family and testifies against her brother, who was on trial for the crime. Twenty-five years later, a group obsessed with solving notorious crimes confronts her with questions about the horrific event. Told in a series of flashbacks from the points of view of Libby's mother, Patty, and her brother, Ben, Libby is forced to revisit that fateful day and begins to question what exactly she saw -- or didn't see -- the night of the tragedy.
Stephane Marsil of Hugo Films also is producing along with Denver and Delilah partners Beth Kono and A.J. Dix as well as Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman and Matt Rhodes.
The book was published in 2009 and was a New York Times best-seller for more than 25 weeks.
De Matteo, who is best-known for her Emmy-winning role on The Sopranos, will play stripper Krissi Cates, a character who holds clues to the murders. Her other credits include Sons of Anarchy and the upcoming Free Ride from Phase 4 Films opposite Anna Paquin.
She is repped by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment.
