Toronto Film Fest Picks European and Canadian Producers for Co-Production Forum
European and Canadian producers will join forces in Toronto for possible international film projects as part of the Producers Lab Toronto programme.
TORONTO – The Toronto International Film Festival’s meet-market is taking shape.
European Film Promotion and the Ontario Media Development Corp. are bringing together 12 European film producers and another dozen Canadian producers for a four-day meet and greet during the festival as part of the Producers Lab Toronto programme.
The aim is spawning European-Canadian film co-productions at the Toronto film festival as the film subsidy pot on both sides of the Atlantic continues to shrink.
Up-and-coming European producers that are Toronto-bound include the U.K.’s Stella Nwimo of Northpoint Pictures, Tristan Orpen Lynch of Irish producer Subotica, and Italian producer Marlo Gianani of Wildside.
Also networking in Toronto as part of the European contingent is Spanish producer Alvaro Alonso of Jaleo Films, Karla Stojakova of Axman Production in the Czech Republic and Anne Walser of Swiss producer C-Films.
The European producers have all taken part in European Film Promotions’ Cannes-based Producers on the Move programme.
The hand-picked Canuck producers in Toronto that hope to strike co-production deals as they eat canapes and learn about the international film business includes Sean Buckley of Buck Productions, Alison Reid of Free Spirit Films and Nicolas Comeau of 1976 Productions.
