Toronto: Laurie May Launches Canadian Distributor Elevation Pictures
The former Maple Pictures co-founder is the latest veteran player looking to fill a market vacuum after Entertainment One acquired Alliance Films.
TORONTO -- Former Maple Pictures executive Laurie May has launched her own distribution shingle, Elevation Pictures.
The new outfit will debut with Morten Tyldum's The Imitation Game after May inked an output deal with Black Bear Pictures.
May was co-founder and co-president of Maple Pictures before the Canadian distributor was acquired by Alliance Films in 2011.
Alliance was subsequently acquired by Entertainment One, which she left earlier this year.
She is the latest veteran Canadian distributor to launch a new venture after Entertainment One swallowed Alliance Films.
“There is a tremendous opportunity in the Canadian distribution landscape following the consolidation of Maple, Alliance and Entertainment One," said May.
CAA brokered the deal between Elevation Pictures and Black Bear.
