The German Nazi cover-up drama has a world premiere on Friday at the Canadian festival

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the North American rights to Giulio Ricciarelli’s directorial debut, Labyrinth of Lies.

The deal with Beta Cinema comes ahead of the film's world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on Friday night. Labyrinth of Lies, based on a true story, portrays a young prosecutor, played by Alexander Fehling, investigating a conspiracy of major institutions and government branches that covered up Nazi war crimes during the Second World War.

Sony Pictures Classics gave no details on release plans for the German theatrical drama.

The ensemble cast includes Inglorious Bastards actor Johann von Bulow, Andre Szymanski, Gert Voss and Friederike Becht. Beta Cinema brought Sony Pictures Classics earlier German films like The Lives of Others and The Counterfeiters, both Oscar winners, and the Oscar nominee In Darkness.

Labyrinth of Lies is co-produced by Claussen + Wobke + Putz Filmproduktion and Naked Eye Film Production. "Having SPC as partner in the U.S. is a dream coming true," said Ricciarelli in a statement on Thursday.
