Toronto to Spotlight Seoul in 2014 City to City Sidebar
South Korea's top filmmakers will be feted at the September event as part of a program now in its sixth year.
TORONTO – South Korea's top filmmakers are to be the subject of the City to City sidebar at the Toronto International Film Festival's upcoming 39th edition.
“Seoul is one of the most exciting cities on the planet, and you can feel that energy in its films,” said TIFF artistic director Cameron Bailey in a statement Monday, as he named South Korea's capital city as his 2014 focus.
Toronto will unveil the City to City lineup, to be programmed by Bailey and Giovanna Fulvi, international programmer for the festival, in the coming months.
South Korean films are a staple of the Toronto festival, which programmed the Harvest: South Korean Renaissance spotlight 12 years ago.
Toronto is home to a thriving Canadian-Korean community and has its own Korea Town neighborhood downtown.
Cities featured in previous City to City programs in Toronto include Athens, Istanbul, Buenos Aires and Mumbai.
The Toronto International Film Festival is set to run Sept. 4-14, 2014.
