Wrekin Hill Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to Liv Ullmann's Miss Julie.

The film, which premiered earlier this month at the Toronto Film Festival, stars Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton and is being poised for an awards season run (Wrekin Hill will release Miss Julie in theaters in December).

Based on the classic August Strindberg play and adapted by Ullmann, Miss Julie is set during the course of a midsummer night in Ireland in 1890. It centers on the unsettled daughter (Chastain) of Anglo-Irish aristocracy, who encourages her father’s valet (Farrell) to seduce her. The valet is already engaged to the cook (Morton), which complicates matters even more.

Synnove Horsdal, Oliver Dungey and Teun Hilte produced the film.

“We are thrilled to be involved with such a captivating film, and we look forward to bringing this incredible film, which features mesmerizing performances by Chastain, Farrell and Morton, to U.S. audiences,” Wrekin Hill COO Rene Cogan said.

Chastain, a two-time Oscar nominee, is expected to have a busy awards season, as she will be supporting A Most Violent Year, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and Interstellar.

Wrekin Hill has a multi-year U.S. home entertainment distribution deal with Lionsgate and a three-year multi-platform output deal with Canadian distributor eOne. The company's upcoming releases include the animated film Yellowbird, starring Seth Green and Dakota Fanning, and the Ben Kingsley-Olivier Martinez pairing The Physician.

CAA repped the filmmakers. Wrekin Hill president and CEO Chris Ball and Cogan negotiated the deal on behalf of the distributor. Wild Bunch is handling international sales.
