Tribeca Film Festival Announces Winners of Music Video Challenge

More than 125 clips were submitted to accompany songs by Damon Albarn, Ellie Goulding and Aloe Blacc.

NEW YORK — The Tribeca Film Festival has announced the winner of its first music film challenge, in which people from around the world were invited to create interactive music videos for songs by Ellie Goulding, Damon Albarn and Aloe Blacc, who provided vocals for Avicii's "Wake Me Up."

Goulding's winning clip (for "Dead in the Water") was created by Hungary's Mate Szabo, Albarn's winning video (for "Heavy Seas of Love") was created by Poland's Jakub Romanowicz and Blacc's winning clip (for "Ticking Bomb") was created by India's Mohit Israney.

“This music film challenge represents some of the best of what the Tribeca Film Festival and our partners are all about -- artists supporting and recognizing other artists, and exploring new approaches to storytelling,” said Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal in a statement. “As our inaugural winners show, there is a bright future for storytelling in the digital age, and with it, the ability to involve creators and engage audiences from around the world.”

Winners were chosen by Tribeca Film Festival jurors Jason Hirschhorn, Judy McGrath and VMA- and Grammy-nominated directing duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, with participation from Albarn and Blacc. Each of the winners will be awarded $10,000 and have their videos celebrated at an April 17 event where Albarn will perform.

The videos can be viewed online at the links above and will also be shown throughout the festival at interactive kiosks.

More than 125 videos, from 29 countries, were submitted via genero.TV, which connects musicians with a global community of more than 250,000 filmmakers, providing a platform for artists to find video directors. Participants used Interlude's interactive video authoring suite, Treehouse.

The contest was a partnership with Lincoln Motor Co.
