'True Blood' Writer Chris Offutt Sells Crime Drama Script to CBS (Exclusive)
Aaron Kaplan will join him as an executive producer on the "House" meets "Texas Ranger" drama project.
Chris Offutt is in negotiations to sell a one-hour crime drama script to CBS.
The project, dubbed House meets Walker, Texas Ranger, centers on a veteran Texas Ranger who is forced to take the new ranger recruits under his tutelage.
If it's ultimately picked up to series, the drama would join HBO's True Blood and Showtime's Weeds on Offutt's résumé. Other credits include a collection of fiction and non-fiction works, including No Heroes: A Memoir of Coming Home, The Same River Twice, Kentucky Straight, Out of the Woods and The Good Brother.
Aaron Kaplan will also serve as an executive producer. For the Kapital Entertainment founder, who was the worldwide head of scripted television at pre-merger William Morris, it's the latest in a series of drama projects, including Fox's Terra Nova and ABC's Good Christian Belles.
Offutt is repped by ICM and attorney Jamie Mandelbaum of Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
