‘True Grit’ Takes Top Cinema Audio Society Award
The movie beat out "Black Swan," "Inception," “Shutter Island” and "The Social Network" for sound mixing.
The mixing team behind True Grit won the feature competition at the 47th annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing, Saturday at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.
The work of production mixer Peter F. Kurland, CAS re-recording mixers Skip Lievsay, Craig Berkey and Greg Orloff on True Grit topped a list of feature nominees that included the mixing teams behind Black Swan, Inception, Shutter Island and The Social Network.
Inception, The Social Network and True Grit are also nominated for the Oscar in sound mixing.
In television, Temple Grandin won the CAS Award in the television movies and miniseries category, Boardwalk Empire topped the category for TV series, and Deadliest Catch won the award for nonfiction, variety or music TV (series or specials).
During the ceremony, The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper, along with re-recording mixer Scott Millan, presented the CAS Filmmaker Award to director and DGA president Taylor Hackford.
Academy Award-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler was part of the honors for his son, Jeffrey S. Wexler, who received the CAS Career Achievement Award. He presented with sound mixer Tomlinson Holman.
During the evening, Thirty Days of Night received an award for DVD original programming, Schoeps Super CMIT 2U won a technical achievement award, and iZotope RX 2 nabbed a postproduction honor.
