Lara Trump says the show is in keeping with the president's strategy of getting around "the biased filter of the mainstream media."

On Sunday, President Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, kicked off what The Hollywood Reporter has learned will be a recurring feature: a video segment posted on the president's Facebook page that aims to present "real news" about what the administration is up to.

"I bet you haven't heard about all the accomplishments the president had this week, because there's so much fake news out there," Lara Trump says in introducing the video. "We wanted to give you a glimpse into his week."

In a statement to THR, Trump explained the thinking behind the weekly segments, which she said are emblematic of the president's strategy of using social media to "speak directly to the American people" and bypass "the biased filter of the mainstream media."

"At the President’s reelection campaign, we are emulating his approach and connecting directly with supporters by posting video messages each week that deliver real news about the great progress President Trump is making to create new jobs, improve the economy and make our nation and our communities safer for all Americans," she said.

Lara Trump is married to Eric Trump, and works on the president's re-election campaign. She has a background in television, having served as a story coordinator and associate producer for Inside Edition.

In the debut segment, she discussed a variety of subjects, including meetings held by President Trump, the performance of the stock market and the falling unemployment rate. She also credited the president for donating his salary to charity.

She closed the video by saying, "Thanks for joining us, everybody. I'm Lara Trump, and that is the real news." So far, the video has been watched on Facebook 2.2 million times.

BuzzFeed's story about the video pointed out that several of the news stories Trump mentioned were covered by mainstream outlets.

Here's Trump's full statement:

One of the many things that my father-in-law has demonstrated is his ability to speak directly to the American people through social media, bypassing the biased filter of the mainstream media. This enables the President to deliver his messages about his actions and achievements to Make America Great Again without interference. At the President’s reelection campaign, we are emulating his approach and connecting directly with supporters by posting video messages each week that deliver real news about the great progress President Trump is making to create new jobs, improve the economy, and make our nation and our communities safer for all Americans. People should stay tuned, as we plan on producing and delivering commentary and content on a regular basis that keeps the focus where it belongs: Making America Great Again.
