TruTV Unveils Development Slate With Projects From Howie Mandel, Shaquille O'Neal
Reality series "Turbulence," "Upload With Shaquille O'Neal" and "Jeff & Curtis Lose Weight" are among the projects being developed at the cable network.
Cable network TruTV has unveiled its development slate and upcoming original series.
Projects being developed include a game show from Howie Mandel, a comedy pilot with basketball star Shaquille O'Neal and a new weight-loss concept from comedians Jeff Sloniker and Curtis Rainsberry.
From Mandel's Alevy Productions, Turbulence (working title) is a game show that takes place in the sky. As contestants fly from one location to another, they must answer questions, with each correct one producing money banked for a Las Vegas getaway and every wrong one making the flight bumpier.
TruTV has ordered a pilot of Upload With Shaquille O'Neal (working title), from the producers of Tosh.0 and America's Funniest Home Videos, that highlights the week's top web videos and also gives O'Neal and friends the opportunity to create their own. Vin De Bona, Bruce Gersh, Susan Levison and Beth Greenwald serve as executive producers with Mike Gibbons.
Jeff & Curtis Lose Weight (working title) centers on duo Sloniker and Rainsberry as they try extreme diets, attend absurd exercise classes and humiliate themselves publicly in order to shed pounds. Rive Gauche Television is developing the project for the net.
Additionally, truTV is betting on new series like upcoming singing contest Killer Karaoke hosted by Steve-O (premiering this year), Guinness World Records Gone Wild (premiering this year), the cast-contingent auction series Container Wars and Hardcore Pawn: Fort Bragg (premiering in July).
Returning to the net's schedule this summer include World's Dumbest... (season 14 premieres June 7), Operation Repo (season 10 premieres June 6), Lizard Lick Towing (season two premieres June 11), Storage Hunters (season two premieres June 12), Hardcore Pawn (season six premieres in July) and Vegas Strip (season three premieres in July).
