Tumblr Launches Pop Culture Destination Fandometrics (Exclusive)
Fandometrics will showcase the conversations that are taking over the Tumblr community.
Tumblr is launching a new hub for all things pop culture.
The Yahoo-owned blogging platform on Tuesday unveiled Fandometrics, a site that compiles the top pop culture conversations within the Tumblr community. The tool will feature a weekly snapshot of the biggest trends from a range of categories: television shows, movies, music, celebrities, video games and Web celebs.
Tumblr, which combines the features of a publishing platform with those of a social network, makes it easy for its users to follow other bloggers and reblog their posts. As a result, the platform has become popular with fan communities. Fandometrics is meant to parse those posts and highlight how fandoms are growing and performing on week-by-week basis.
Sima Sistani, Tumblr's head of media, explains that Fandometrics will be especially useful for brands looking to engage with Tumblr's community.
"Smart social marketers are moving away from measuring success in terms of real-time conversations, instead focusing on building momentum through influential fan communities that serve as powerful brand advocates," she says. "Tumblr is the epicenter and home of fandoms, and our Fandometrics provides a colorful and meaningful glimpse into the zeitgeist."
With the launch of Fandometrics, Tumblr is partnering with Entertainment Tonight, which will feature the week's most engaged Tumblr content in broadcasts and online. Sistani adds that "the partnership with Entertainment Tonight will bring the best of Fandometrics to a broad television audience that is eager to know what the Tumblr community is buzzing about."
