Biography in Asia

A&E Television Networks' Biography Channel gains its first foothold in Southeast Asia on Tuesday as part of carriage deals with cable operators in the Philippines and Singapore, the network said Wednesday. The channel is operated by AETN's joint venture with Malaysian pay TV platform Astro, which also runs the History Channel and Crime & Investigation in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Biography's schedule will be a mix of Biography Channel content and local fare.

Discovery links units

Discovery Networks International announced Wednesday the integration of its India and Asia businesses, bringing India under the jurisdiction of the regional operation. Effective July 1, New Delhi-based senior vp advertising sales Rahul Johri will assume management responsibility for India as a senior vp and country manager.

Unity for French nets

France's private networks have joined forces to launch a new trade organization, Association des Chaines Prives, to defend their rights and interests, the groups said Wednesday. Bertrand Meuheut, president of the Canal Plus group, will head the ACP for two years. All private TV networks with national coverage have joined the association, which was set up through the initiative of main terrestrial channels TF1, Canal Plus and M6.

Reveille calls Oppenheim

"Today" senior producer Noah Oppenheim will leave the morning show for a vp job at production company Reveille Entertainment. Oppenheim will take his new job in about a month. He will be based in Los Angeles.
