Emptybig week for 'Nightline'
ABC's "Nightline" pushed past CBS' "Late Show With David Letterman" for a second week, this time against "Late Show" originals. The ABC newsmagazine was a firm second place in viewership, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, averaging 3.1 million viewers and a 0.9 rating/4 share in the 18-49 demographic, Nielsen said Thursday.
Russians take 'Office'
Russia's Channel One is throwing open its doors to a local version of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's comedy "The Office." BBC Worldwide said Thursday that it has sold local-version rights to the Russian broadcaster, which will make 24 half-hour episodes via production company Red Square.
Barker pitches in
Bob Barker is returning to television to remind Americans about the upcoming switch to digital television. He will be featured in new spots produced by the National Association of Broadcasters encouraging viewers to upgrade their TVs ahead of the February switch.
MTV enhances Brand
British actor-comedian Russell Brand has been tapped to host the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, set to air live Sept. 7 from the Paramount lot in Hollywood.
MGM REACHES GERMANY
MGM Networks is expanding the reach of the MGM Channel abroad to mobile users in Germany via a deal with Vodafone. It's the first such cell phone deal for the channel in Europe.
