SERIES SLOW SO FAR

Fox led Wednesday night with Game 1 of the World Series, though the ratings were down from last year. The Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay game (14.6 million viewers, 4.8 rating in adults 18-49) gave Fox its highest-rated Wednesday since the "American Idol" finale in May. Yet the game was off 17% in the adult demo from last year's Game 1.

'SpongeBob' BACK

Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" will return to China Central Television in January. For its third showing in China, Viacom said Thursday that it will bring "all-new, never-before-seen" episodes to the territory next year. In all, there will be 30 new episodes.

NO comedy IN GERMANY

MTV Networks Germany is shutting down the German version of Comedy Central just two years after its launch.

TRAVEL'S NEW 'HAUNTS'

Travel Channel has acquired U.S. rights to an hourlong special, "America Haunts," from Shankly International. The special, which spotlights America's top horror attractions, will air at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Shankly's Leon Logothetis and David Brenner are exec producers;

BIG YUKS FOR TBS

TBS has tapped more than 25 emerging and established comic talents to perform in the network's LOL Lounge, a specially designed comedy club being set up in Caesars Palace's Emperors Ballroom during the Comedy Festi- val, set for Nov. 20-22 in Las Vegas.
