MAVERICK RETURNS

Sen. John McCain's first public appearance since Election Day gave "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" the vote of late-night viewers Tuesday night. "Tonight" was the highest-rated late-night program on any network. "Tonight" averaged a 4.9 household rating/12 share in the 56 metered markets, Nielsen Media Research said.

'PRIVILEGED' ORDER

The CW ordered five more episodes of Tuesday night soap "Privileged" from producers from Warner Bros., CBS Paramount and Alloy Entertainment. The network also has a plan to get the show additional sampling next month. The CW will give "Privileged" a run in the "One Tree Hill" slot after "Gossip Girl" on Mondays in early December.

'SNL' ADDITIONS

Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins have been tapped as featured players on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." The two debut this week. Elliott's father, Chris Elliott, was on the show during the 1994-95 season. Abby Elliott is repped by Innovative and manager Tom Demko; Watkins is with APA and Flutie Entertainment.

NAACP HONORS

Al Gore and Wangari Muta Maathai will be awarded the NAACP Chairman's Award during the 40th NAACP Image Awards, which will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium on Feb. 12 by Fox.
