TV deal afoot for baby mind reader
EmptyWeller/Grossman Prods. has inked a co-production deal with RTL for a reality series featuring Scottish psychic Derek Ogilvie, a self-professed expert in reading the minds of infants.
Ogilvie, who is the author of "The Baby Mind Reader," previously appeared in a British series of that name. He was introduced to U.S. audiences with an appearance on NBC's "Today."
Ogilvie claims to have the ability to communicate telepathically with babies and young children. The impetus behind his work is to convey their feelings and concerns to troubled parents in an attempt to resolve behavioral and emotional difficulties.
The new series, "Baby's Wil Is Wet" (What Baby Wants Is Law), launches on RTL 4 in the Netherlands this fall with a 15-episode order. Weller/Grossman is talking to networks Stateside about a U.S. version of the show.
"We've been astounded by Derek's ability to connect with children and their parents," said Robb Weller, who is executive producing with Gary Grossman for their company. "He's an original, and when it comes to getting from problem to problem-solved, Derek delivers."
Added Grossman: "There's no one like Derek Ogilvie on television. You have to see him to believe him -- and seeing him makes you a believer."
Ogilvie and RTL's Wilma Westrus-Naberhuis also are executive producing the show, which was developed by Ogilvie, Weller/Grossman and Ogilvie's production company. Producers for RTL and WGP are Matthias Scholten and Tyler McGauley. The series is repped by APA.
Weller/Grossman's credits include History Channel's Emmy-nominated "Beyond the DaVinci Code" and USA Network's "Healing the Hate," which received a Governors Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
