Ervin was born in Clifton Park, N.Y. She received a degree in political science from American University and had previously worked as an executive assistant at VH1 and production events manager at MTV.
"We are heartsick at the loss of Heather Hicks Ervin," Kohan and Mutchnick said in a statement. "We’ve lost so much more than the woman who ran the daily operations of our company for the last 12 years. We lost a surrogate mother, a moral compass, a joyous presence, a sharp and organized thinker, a drinking buddy, a truly funny person, and a deeply kind, deeply loving soul."
Ervin is survived by her husband, Jason Ervin, and two sons: two-year-old Matthew and 10-month-old James.
A funeral will be held in upstate New York on Dec. 27, and a memorial celebrating her life will take place at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif., on Jan. 8, 2015. Donations to establish a scholarship for her two sons can be sent by clicking here.
