TV is at revamped Crossroads

Crossroads Films is going for a major expansion.

The indie feature producer and full-service commercial and music video production company is launching a television division, tapping Endeavor agent Conan Smith and reality producer/director Rico Martinez as executive producers and Brooke Posch as director of development. They join executive producer Katherine Dore.

The company also has beefed up its film department ranks with the hires of Claire Pacacha as head of feature development and Eunice Lee as vp production and development.

Meanwhile, former head of feature development David Title will now oversee Crossroads' digital content efforts as director of new media.

Crossroads had a feature deal with United Artists, developing films like "Igby Goes Down," until UA's sale to Sony Pictures. Since then, Crossroads launched the Deciders, a private development fund with an annual budget of $1.2 million. Crossroads' behind-the-scenes work in television through some of its divisions included Headlight Design + Visual Effects. With the Deciders up and running, the time felt right to take the company's presence in the TV business to the next level, Crossroads topper Dan Lindau said.

"We have so much material and some of it isn't suited for features or for the Web," Lindau said. "It became more and more clear that we're missing a key component; we really needed to round out our entertainment offering to the marketplace."

Crossroads has offices in London, New York and Los Angeles. The TV division will be based in New York; the feature unit, whose upcoming slate includes "Snow Angels," is based in Los Angeles.

Smith joined Endeavor two years ago to launch the agency's stand-up and booking division with a client list that included Artie Lange, Nick Kroll, Dave Hill, Robert Wuhl, Tom Papa and Finesse Mitchell. He now will mine the New York comedy scene to develop projects for Crossroads' TV and broadband divisions. The company already has 10-12 projects in different stages of development, he said.

"Our goal is to be a destination for writers and performers and to partner with them on all aspects of the business," Smith said.

In his more than 15 years as an agent, Smith said he always "took a creative approach to agenting," so the transition to producing was a natural next step.

Martinez, who most recently had a first-look deal with MTV, has executive produced and directed shows for NBC, the WB, MTV and VH1, including MTV's "Viva La Bam." Crossroads also will have a first look at Martinez's feature projects as a component of the deal. He is repped by WMA and the Collective.

Posch most recently served as writer-producer on MTV's "Your Movie Show."
