TV Ratings: Kobe Bryant Farewell Edges Past Warriors' Win
The shooting guard's final game with the Los Angeles Lakers tops cable on Wednesday.
The actual game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz may not have been the top-billed basketball showdown on Wednesday night, but attention around Kobe Bryant's retirement made it the most-watched.
Bryant's NBA farewell averaged a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.65 million viewers, enough to make it the biggest thing on cable for the night — and enough to skirt past the evening's more hyped game. The Golden State Warriors' victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, their record-setting 73rd win on the last day of the regular NBA season, settled for No. 2 status.
Steph Curry and the Warriors came in just shy of Bryant, averaging a 1.6 rating in the key demo and 3.47 million viewers.
L.A.'s Staples Center went all-out for the longtime Laker's final game, lining the arena's facade with his image and packing it with confetti. Bryant scored 60 points during his final game, helping the team wrap an underwhelming season with a victory.
