Twitter Unveils New Look on 'Today'
The micro-blogging site debuts a photo-heavy profile page and an iPad app.
Twitter is getting a new makeover: the company debuted updates to profile pages as well as mobile and iPad apps on Tuesday's edition of the Today show.
As you can see, the morning program's profile page has been tweaked to add more photos including a large banner image (featuring Matt Lauer and crew) positioned above follower stats (1,355,062-and-counting) and a feed of Today's tweets. Other changes include a more prominent display of the photo stream mid-page, with larger images to catch the eye.
Twitter CEO Dick Costolo showed off the redesign in a much-hyped segment that followed another piece profiling the San Francisco-based company.
STORY: Twitter Bird Gets an Update
The updates are being implemented across the brand's website, mobile app and iPad app, which was announced Tuesday along with the changes.
"Starting today you can make your presence on Twitter more meaningful with new Twitter profiles," said a statement on the company's blog. "Upload an all-new header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Android or twitter.com, and the same image will appear whenever anyone views your profile on the web or these apps. You can upload your header photo, which appears above your Tweets, to express yourself instantly, anywhere."
Facebook profiles recently underwent a similar tweak with the introduction of banner-esque "cover" photos.
(As for Twitter, it all started with Larry the bird.)
