Twitter Explodes After Christina Aguilera Messes Up National Anthem at Super Bowl

The pop star mistakenly repeated a lyric during her performance.

Twitter was abuzz with comments that Christina Aguilera messed up the National Anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

"My wife and I rewound the DVR to confirm that Christina Aguilera flubbed the National Anthem lyrics," wrote Frank Murphy, a radio host in Knoxville, Tenn. "She must wish she had a do-over!"

Aguilera, who sang The Star Spangled Banner ahead of the start of Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas, mistakenly repeated a phrase early in the song. Instead of singing "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?" the pop star sang "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming?" (changing "hailed" to "watched" the second time around).

Most Tweeters weren't kind to Aguilera.

"CHRISTINA AGUILERA. If you're going to sing the national anthembefore the biggest TV event ever, learn the words. Yes, all of them," one person tweeted.

Another wrote: "Hey christina aguilera, little less time on the 12 quarts of lipstick and 90's business suit & more time on LEARNING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM!"

Another claimed that the players seemed to have noticed the gaffe too.

"Xtina messes up the national anthem.... Camera then turns to packers smirking at each other... It's already off to a great start!"

Aguilera also performed The Star-Spangled Banner at last year's NBA finals and was part of the halftime show during the 2000 Super Bowl.

Other singers who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in years past include Carrie Underwood, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Mariah Carey and Beyonce Knowles.
