Tyra Banks Sparks Media Frenzy in South Korea
Production for "America's Next Top Model" is under tight wraps as SNS users reported the model's appearance in Seoul.
SEOUL – Major South Korean entertainment media reported Tyra Banks' appearance in Seoul for the production of America's Next Top Model, thanks to avid local SNS users who spotted the supermodel in the city's landmark venues.
Banks and other members of the modeling competition's cast and crew arrived in Korea on March 21 for a two-week stay. Though the local production is taking place under tight security, Seoul residents immediately recognized Banks at City Hall, Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbok Palace -- some of the most popular tourist destinations in the Korean capital's downtown area.
America's Next Top Model has been airing on local cable channels alongside the popular Korean version of the show, Korea's Next Top Model, which airs its fifth season in July.
Sports DongA, Sports Chosun, Sports Hankook and other entertainment dailies took notice of SNS posts by users. Adding to the media frenzy was the appearance of Korean model Jini Lee as a contender. Lee is the daughter of film actress Hwang Shin Hye, who reportedly was at the shoot in Gwanghwamun on Monday.
The upcoming season of America's Next Top Model is set to air in August.
