U.K. Box Office: 'Big Hero 6' Fends Off 'Kingsman' for Top Spot
'American Sniper' shoots wide in its third week, slipping two places.
The top of the U.K. box office was a hard-fought tussle between Colin Firth and a large inflatable medical robot.
With American Sniper slipping from first to third in its third week with earnings of $2.4 million, according to figures released Tuesday by Rentrak, it was down to Big Hero 6 and Kingsman: The Secret Service to scrap it out for the highest places.
In the end, it was Disney’s animated superhero comedy that came out on top, scooping $75,000 more than Matthew Vaughn’s spy action-caper with $6.5 million from 500 screens.
The Theory of Everything and Taken 3 remained in the top five, both seeing their earnings reach $25 million, while Paddington saw its 10th week in the charts earn a seventh position, with total takings hitting $53.6 million.
Inherent Vice secured the ninth spot in its debut weekend with $550,000.
