U.K. Box Office: 'Straight Outta Compton' Finds Instant Rhythm
The N.W.A biopic goes straight in at number one, while 'Rogue Nation' becomes the most successful 'Mission: Impossible' of all time in the U.K.
Echoing its success across the Atlantic in the U.S., Straight Outta Compton landed in the U.K. box office's first spot in its opening week.
During a relatively quiet week for British cinemas, the rap biopic took $3.8 million, taking the crown from Paper Towns which slipped seven spots in its second week with $690,000.
Inside Out remained in second, adding $1.8 million in its sixth week and now looking set to overtake Up's $53.1 million haul to be named the fourth most successful original animation of all time in the U.K.
The second highest new entry was video game franchise spin-off reboot Hitman: Agent 47, taking $1.5 million for third position, and bumping Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation ($1.4 million) and Pixels ($1.02 million). The fifth Mission: Impossible is now the most successful of the franchise in the U.K. with $29.4 million.
The week's only other new entry in the top 10 was Berlinale-winning 45 Years, which took $500,000 from just 68 sites, making it the second best site average behind Compton.
