U.K.'s Mara Pictures Pacts With Pakistan's Footprint
The British-based indie distributor strikes a deal with South Asian multiplex and distribution company to bolster output in region.
LONDON – U.K.-based indie Asian cinema distributor Mara Pictures has joined forces with Pakistan's multiplex operator and distributor Footprint Entertainment to bolster its output in the Asian territory.
Billed as a "strategic relationship" between the companies, Mara will be bolstered with more backing to continue to acquire and distribute Asian independent cinema here while simultaneously releasing movies in Pakistan through Footprint.
Mara releases include Ramchand Pakistani, Cooking With Stella, Bhutto and That Girl in Yellow Boots.
Footprint Entertainment introduced the first nationally branded multiplex chain in Pakistan under the name Cinepax and reps Hollywood studios including Universal, Paramount, DreamWorks and Disney across South Asia.
"We are pleased to be working with Mara Pictures to further develop the market in this space", said Footprint Entertainment and Cinepax spokesman Arif Baigmohamed. "Given our own position as the leading multiplex operator in Pakistan, one of South Asia's fastest-growing film markets, we feel that we have a winning combination of guaranteed access to screens with Mara's expertise in film acquisition."
Mara's Sanam Hasan said the partnership with Footprint "marks a new phase in growth for us as we enter our third year of operations and build a new slate."
