Harmony Korine's 'Spring Breakers' Firms up U.K. Rollout
LONDON -- U.K. production, finance and distribution banner Vertigo Films is teaming with Universal Pictures UK, the U.K. home entertainment division of Universal Pictures International Entertainment, to bring British audiences Spring Breakers, starring Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place), Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), Rachel Korine (Mister Lonely), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) and James Franco (127 Hours).
The movie is scheduled to roll out via the partners on April 5 in the U.K. and Ireland.
Written and directed by Harmony Korine, the movie tells the tale of college dorm girls looking for ways to save enough money for spring break.
Vertigo Films' Rupert Preston said his outfit was "thrilled" to be working with Universal Pictures UK.
Preston added: "Harmony Korine has created a bold, fresh and exciting film and we could not be happier to welcome it to our upcoming [distribution] slate."
Vertigo will handle the theatrical rollout, with Universal Pictures UK harnessing the home entertainment rights.
Universal Pictures UK head of local film acquisitions Richard Thompson described Korine's latest movie as "already one of the most anticipated and talked about films of 2013."
