U.K. Streaming Service Wuaki.tv Gets Lionsgate Titles
LONDON -- U.K. streaming service Wuaki.tv, currently battling with Netflix, Amazon's LoveFilm and Tesco's Blinkbox for eyeballs here, has struck a content deal with Lionsgate U.K.
The movie and TV streaming service owned by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten will get key titles from Lionsgate U.K.'s extensive catalog, making hundreds of hours of new movies available on Wuaki.tv for rental or purchase.
Wuaki.tv will offer such Lionsgate U.K. content as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Dirty Dancing, The Expendables and Oscar-winner The Hurt Locker.
The fresh content joins Wuaki.tv’s existing lineup, which includes output from Hollywood majors Warner Bros., Disney, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, as well as U.K. distributors, such as the BBC and ITV.
Users can rent or purchase individual Lionsgate U.K. titles directly from Wuaki.tv and watch on a variety of devices, including smart TVs from Samsung and Panasonic, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles and iPads and iPhones through the new iOS app.
"We are delighted to become part of Wuaki.tv's U.K. transactional service, and we look forward to growing our partnership with them, starting with the release of Hunger Games: Catching Fire," which became available on Monday, said Lionsgate U.K. senior sales controller, digital Joanna Knight.
"Lionsgate U.K. is well known in the U.K. and internationally for producing some fantastic movies and TV series," added Wuaki.tv CEO Jacinto Roca. "We want to provide Wuaki.tv users with the best selection of movies and TV series available anywhere in the world, rather than a long list of titles they have never heard of. The partnership with Lionsgate U.K. is an ideal addition to our extensive catalog, adding some great titles and classic movies."
Movies available to rent and purchase on Wuaki.tv are priced from $4 (£2.49).
