Ukraine channels merge into media group

KRT, UBC, Akademia and Saturn comprise group

MOSCOW -- Four Ukrainian TV channels co-owned by Gennady Vassilyev, a member of the country's parliament, the Rada, have merged to form a media group, the Ukrainian news channel Telekritika reported Friday.

The national free-to-air channels KRT and UBC and local cable networks, Akademia and Saturn in the cities Vinitsa and Nikolayev, comprise the new group.

UBC, the group's flagship, is expected to undergo major programming and personnel changes aimed at achieving profitable operation, according to the report.
