Ulrich Tukur Debuts on German TV to 8.7 Million Audience
COLOGNE, Germany -- Celebrated actor Ulrich Tukur (The Lives of Others, John Rabe) has become the latest big name German cinema star to successfully make the transition to the small screen after his TV debut on crime series TatortSunday drew 8.7 million viewers, a 23.6% market share for public channel ARD.
Tatort (Crime Scene) turned 40 this year but the crime and punishment format is stronger than ever.
According to ARD, an average of 8.5 million viewers watch the weekly show, which features a rotation of detectives from different cities across Germany, the highest level since 1995.
The lure of the mass continues to entice the country's top acting talent. In October, Sibel Kekilli, star of Germany's 2011 Foreign Language Oscar hopeful When We Leave, joined the Tatort team. The ratings, as always, were stellar, with 8.5 million, or 22.4% of the national audience, tuning in.
