Uma as Marilyn: A 'Smash' Coup
Uma Thurman is taking on her first TV series, in the role of a starlet recruited to play Marilyn Monroe in the Broadway musical at the center of NBC's Smash. But even though executive producers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman penned a song, "Dig Deep," just for the actress (who was pregnant during production), "she had a bit of a shock between movies and television," says Wittman. So the Tony-winning duo worked with Thurman, 41, to help her master the song in two days. "She came back and sang it with the knowledge that she really could," notes Shaiman. Look for Thurman's "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" in an upcoming episode.
