'Unbroken' Trailer: First Look at Angelina Jolie's World War II Drama (Video)
The first trailer for Angelina Jolie's World War II drama Unbroken strikes a rousing tone as it introduces the true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who survived time in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.
The trailer shows Zamperini's childhood, training as an Olympic runner and aerial fights onboard a U.S. Air Force bomber above the Pacific. It also covers his plane's crash into the ocean and subsequent imprisonment at the hands of the Japanese military.
The film, directed by Jolie, stars Jack O'Connell as Zamperini and is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s 2010 book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.
Zamperini, who collaborated with Universal Pictures for the long-in-the-works project, died July 2 at age 97.
The film is set for release Dec. 25, 2014. Other films scheduled for wide release on that date include Paramount's Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Buena Vista's Into the Woods and Weinstein's/Dimension's Paddington.
