Unifrance's online 'My French Films Festival' set to kick off on Jan. 14th, 2011

Cyberfestival to host 10 feature films and 10 shorts via VOD with multiple subtitles

 

PARIS -- French film lovers won't have to board a plane to see the latest in Gallic big screen fare thanks to French film promotion organization Unifrance's new online "My French Films Festival" set to kick off on Jan. 14th, 2011 on the web.

The MyFrenchFilmsFestival.com site, in partnership with French film website Allocine, will launch just in time for Unifrance's 13th annual "Rendez-Vous with French Cinema" event in Paris.

The online fest will run through Jan. 29th and will present 10 feature films from first and second-time directors in competition plus 10 short films. Info about the films including interviews with the films' directors and cast will be online as of December.

The cyberfestival is the first of its kind and will be accessible in paid VOD to Internet users across the globe and available in nearly a dozen languages including German, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. The films will all be in French with subtitles, and two titles -- Riad Sattouf's The French Kissers and Mona Achache's The Hedgehog -- based on Muriel Barbery's best-selling novel The Elegance of the Hedgehog -- will be available just for the U.S. and the U.K. complete with interviews with those films' talent and directors.

Unifrance will also screen Jean Renoir's 1955 title French Cancan online during the cyberfestival.

This year's competition features include: Nassim Amaouche's Adieu Gary, Christopher Thompson's Bus Palladium, Frederic Mermoud's Complices, Nicolas Saada's Spy(ies), Axelle Ropert's La Famille Wolberg, Patrick Mario Bernard and Pierre Tridivic's L'Autre, Maiwenn's All About Actresses, Lea Fehner's Qu'un Seul Tienne et les autres suivront, Pascal Elbe's Tete de Turc, and Geraldine Nakache and Herve Mimran's Tout ce qui Brille.

Web users will be able to vote for their favorite films for an audience award. Other prizes include a foreign bloggers prize and an international press prize.
