Universal Pictures to Distribute Musical Comedy Pitch Perfect Worldwide
The Gold Circle Films movie will be produced by Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman and directed by Jason Moore.
Universal Pictures along with Gold Circle Films has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to a new musical comedy called Pitch Perfect. The project will be directed by Jason Moore and the screenplay was adapted by Kay Cannon from the nonfiction book written by Mickey Rapkin.
Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman will produce the musical with Gold Circle Films which also will finance the project.
Gold Circle Films has produced successful films including My Big Fat Greek Wedding-- the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time-- and films Life As We Know It, White Noise, Because I Said So, New in Town, The Haunting in Connecticut and The Wedding Date.
Moore is well known for directing various episodes of television series, including Brothers & Sisters, Everwood, One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek. He has received several nominations for his work on Broadway. Moore directed the stage production of the acclaimed Shrek The Musical, which he was nominated for Best Director at Outer Critics and Drama Desk. Also he got a Best Director Tony Award nomination for directing Avenue Q, which has earned a Tony Award for Best Musical.
Cannon has written several episodes of the Emmy Award-winning NBC series 30 Rock.
Moore is represented by WME, and Cannon is represented by WME and manager Geoff Cheddy of Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
