Universal Pictures International to Co-Finance French-language comedy
Christian Clavier’s directorial debut stars Jean Reno and stand-up comedienne Muriel Robin.
Universal Pictures International, UPI France, Les Films du Kiosque and Ouille Prods. are partnering to co-finance a new French-language comedy On Ne Choisit Pas Sa Famille (You Don’t Choose Your Family).
The film reteams French stars Christian Clavier, Jean Reno and stand-up comedienne Muriel Robin and will also mark Clavier’s feature directorial debut. Helena Noguerra also stars.
The project, which begins filming in March, is being produced by Francois Kraus and Denis Pineau-Valencienne of Les Films du Kiosque with Ouille, Clavier’s production company, based on Clavier and Michel Delgado’s screenplay. UPI France will release the film on Nov. 9.
It follows on the heels of UPI France’s success this year with the French romantic comedy Heartbreaker, which has become one of the highest grossing French films of 2010, totalling more than 3.7 million admissions in France to date.
“The combination of a smart, witty comedy with a stellar cast of the calibre of Jean Reno, Christian Clavier, Muriel Robin and Helena Noguerra who have such a following in France made this an ideal project for us,” said Christian Grass, UPI president of acquisitions and production. “We’re really delighted to be teaming up with Francois at Les Films du Kiosque and look forward to working with him and his creative team for the first time on this exciting production.”
