Universal Pictures' U.K. arm taps Foster

LONDON -- Entertainment U.K. commercial director Ian Foster has been named managing director of Universal Pictures U.K. He will take up the post in the fall.

Staff members at Universal were informed Friday, and a formal announcement will be made Monday.

Foster is widely credited with playing a central role in the revival of Entertainment U.K.'s business. He rejoined them as commercial director in 2003, having previously worked for the business as head of sales and marketing and video trading controller between 1995 and 1999. In the interim, he was managing director of the group's independent record label, Demon Music.

At Universal, Foster will fill the position vacated at the beginning of the year when Eddie Cunningham moved up from chairman and regional managing director to become the new president of Universal Pictures International Entertainment, replacing Peter Smith.

Company veteran Johnny Fewings has filled the position on an interim basis. "This position will become a permanent sole MD role," the company said.
