Universal Promotes PR Vet Cindy Gardner as Exec VP Teri Everett Exits
Gardner has served as senior vp corporate affairs for Universal Studios since 2005.
Universal Filmed Entertainment Group is shuffling its communications team, naming Cindy Gardner to a new strategic joint role, executive vp global communications UFEG and corporate affairs, NBCUniversal. Teri Everett, who currently heads up communications for the film group, will exit the company later this month.
Gardner, who has been with the company more than 20 years, will be responsible for all external and internal communications for the film group, reporting to Jeff Shell, and will continue to report to NBCUniversal vice chairman Ron Meyer. She will begin her expanded role later this month.
"Ron, Donna and I look forward to working with Cindy in this new role," said Shell in a statement. "She has proven time and again that she has excellent judgment, deep industry knowledge, and the right experience to guide us through the changing business landscape. She is a trusted advisor to me and continues to be an integral part of our senior team."
Gardner will be responsible for all worldwide external and internal communications, overseeing media relations, executive and employee communications, and box-office reporting. Gardner will continue working with Meyer and the West Coast corporate affairs team on NBCUniversal initiatives, including community relations, corporate social responsibility programs and strategic communications for the Studio Lot. She most recently served as senior vp corporate affairs for Universal Studios since 2005.
"Cindy has been my right-hand through many transitions at the company and has always shown leadership, fortitude, and determination in whatever challenges we faced,” said Meyer. “Her in-depth knowledge of the company and the business makes her uniquely qualified for this new joint position."
Former Time Inc. PR guru Teri Everett was hired by Universal in summer 2015 to replace Kori Bernards.
"Teri is one of the most well-respected strategic communications executives in the business,” said Shell. “Since 2015, Teri’s leadership and steady hand guided us through some major developments for the Filmed Entertainment Group, including the DreamWorks Animation acquisition. She also built up our Global Communications operation, with an expanded focus on some of our growing divisions and corporate initiatives.”
