Universal Reveals Its New Home Entertainment Team
Eddie Cunningham, new president of Universal Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment, is streamlining operations
As part of the restructuring of its home entertainment operations, Universal Pictures today unveiled the executive team headed by Eddie Cunningham, who was named president of Universal Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment in February. Cunningham, who formerly led the company’s international home entertainment group in London, has relocated to Los Angeles, where he reports to president and chief distribution officer Peter Levinsohn.
Under the new organization, which the studio said is designed to streamline its domestic and international operations while providing a greater global focus, Cunningham is establishing a separate U.S. operating company to service Universal’s largest revenue-generating home entertainment territory. In addition, a Canadian operating company will also be formed to support the fourth-largest market in the home entertainment space. Additionally, Universal will retain its nine international offices.
Michael Bonner, who leads the domestic digital distribution side of Universal’s home entertainment group, will continue to oversee that business as executive vice president of digital distribution for UPHE, reporting to Levinsohn.
Members of Cunningham’s new team will include: Melanie Laithwaite, who currently serves as Universal Pictures International Entertainment’s executive vp, business affairs and operations, who will become executive vp, business affairs and business operations, UPHE; Hilary Hoffman, Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s executive vp of marketing, who will become executive vp, marketing, UPHE; Paul Chesney, previously UPIE’s senior vp of international operations and licensees, who will take on the role globally as executive vp, operations, UPHE; John Revill, previously UPIE’s senior vp and regional managing director sales, insights and catalogue and TV marketing, who will become executive vp of global partners and sales; Glenn Ross, who oversees the company’s home entertainment original productions arm, will continue in his capacity as executive vp of Universal 1440 Entertainment; and Helen Parker, who oversees the company’s international acquisitions and production business, will continue in her capacity as executive vp and managing director, A&R.
Additionally, John Morici, formerly USHE’s COO and CFO will assume the position of executive vp and regional managing director of the newly formed U.S. and Canadian operating companies. John Melluso, who previously held the title of vp, sales will become the new managing director of the Canadian operating company, reporting to Morici.
Execs who will continue in their current roles as regional managing directors and managing directors, reporting to Cunningham, include: Ian Foster, regional managing director, United Kingdom and Japan; Pauline Grimaldi d’Esdra, regional managing director, France; Dirk Lisowsky, regional managing director, Germany/Austria/Switzerland; and Jim Batchelor, managing director, Australia (a joint venture with Sony).
