Universal Schedules Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion,' Oliver Stone's 'Savages'

The studio also sets a release date for "Despicable Me" sequel.
Universal has dated several high-profile movies, including the Tom Cruise starrer Oblivion and Oliver Stone’s Savages. The studio also has set a release date for Despicable Me 2.
Savages, an ensemble thriller based on the best-selling crime novel by Don Winslow, will open Sept. 28, 2012.
Oblivion doesn’t open until July 19, 2013, while Despicable Me 2 opens two weeks earlier on July 3, looking to profit from the lucrative July 4th holiday.
Savages stars Blake Lively as Ophelia, the girlfriend of two Laguna Beach entrepreneurs who have a thriving marijuana business. When the two men, played by Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson, refuse to sell their operation to a Mexican drug cartel, she’s kidnapped.
Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Emile Hirsch round out the cast of Savages.
Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) is set to direct Cruise in Oblivion, a fantasy about a former solider who is the last person left on Earth after a war with an alien race. When he encounters a crashed spacecraft with a lone survivor, the two set off on an epic adventure.
Oblivion is based on the illustrated novel of the same name.
Despicable Me 2, from Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment, is a followup to the blockbuster 3D toon that grossed $540 million at the worldwide box office.
