Universal Pictures and Working Title Films have signed "Atonement" director Joe Wright to a two-picture deal.
Wright is currently in production on "Soloist," which Universal is partnering with DreamWorks and Working Title. The movie, which stars Jaime Foxx and Robert Downey Jr., is separate from the agreement.
The deal keeps Wright firmly in the arms of Working Title and Universal. Wright's 2005 feature debut "Pride & Prejudice" was produced by Working Title (along with Studio Canal) and released by Universal's specialty division Focus Features. Awards contender "Atonement" was also made by the same players.
"Atonement" has received seven Academy Award nominations, including best picture, and seven Golden Globe nominations. It won for best motion picture (drama). The movie has also been nominated for 14 BAFTA Awards, including best picture and best director.
Wright began his career in British television.
