UPFRONTS 2012: Travel Channel Introduces Seven New Series
Travel Channel will launch a themed programming initiative around the summer months -- when viewers usually less watch television. Destination Summer will begin Sunday, May 20 with special installments of popular returning shows including Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations that will have Bourdain discovering Kansas City barbeque and Park Secrets in the vacation paradise of Hawaii.
The network also will bow seven news original series throughout the summer.
Mega Mansions, July 8 at 7 p.m., offers a tour inside America’s mansions from hidden vaults in the Hearst Castle, to the private “Bachelor’s Wing” at the Biltmore Estate, to a state-of-the-art San Francisco palace where the lights, music and climate are controlled by a smart phone.
Xtreme Waterparks, July 8 at 8 p.m., celebrates over-the top and fabulous water slides from the world’s tallest slide in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, to a high-speed gravity-defying water ride in Orlando, Florida.
Insane Coaster Wars, July 8 at 9 p.m., lets viewers vote on their favorite coasters. Each episode features four coasters in six different categories. Coaster experts will argue the pros, cons, advantages and weaknesses of each ride. The fan favorites will be announced on air at the end of each episode. The one-hour finale counts down the top ten coasters. (Voting runs May 7 – June 1 on www.travelchannel.com.)
RV Kings, July 8 at 10 p.m., follows the transformation of one family’s RV into the perfect vehicle for their dream vacation.
Suite Choice, July 12 at 10 p.m., gives travelers a chance to try out three of their ideal vacations in one day -- while staying on a budget. The winning spot is revealed at the end of each show.
American Originals, July 24 8 p.m., America enthusiast Steve Watson crisscrosses the country playing with gadgets like the JetLev in Dania, Florida, where he’ll walk on water and fly through the air, or Sandboard in Florence, Oregon where surfing meets snowboarding on the dunes.
All You Can Meat, August 15 at 10 p.m., follows radio personality and TV host Chuey Martinez (MTV3) as he crosses the nation searching for the perfect cut of meat prepared by everyone from the Texas pit master to the woodsman in Appalachia curing jerky in his shack.
